History[edit]

In the aftermath of the 2018 Kerala floods, several schools in the Ernakulam district mobilized to become a part of relief efforts.[2][3] The unilateral and uncoordinated nature of these efforts led the student council leaders to propose of a network of schools to tackle local and civic issues through collective action. [1]

A constitution establishing the organization was signed on 29 October, 2018, at Global Public School (GPS), by the leaders of The Choice School, The Delta Study, Rajagiri Christu Jayanthi Public School, and Chinmaya Vidyalaya Vaduthala, in addition to GPS.[4]

Leadership[edit]

The leadership of PLAN is assumed by the member-schools on an annual rotational basis. Global Public School is currently helming the organization, with its School Pupil Leader, Faheem Mohammed serving as the president of PLAN, and its Vice Principal, Susanna Sunil serving as teacher-mentor.

The leadership of PLAN rotates in the following order:

  • Global Public School
  • The Choice School
  • The Delta Study
  • Rajagiri Christu Jayanthi Public School
  • Chinmaya Vidyalaya Vaduthala

Plogathon 2019 was a plogging event organized by PLAN[5] on 7 April, 2019 in the thoroughfare between Chinmaya Vidyala Vaduthala, and Park Avenue.[1] Bringing together students from four schools, and corporate sponsors across the city, the organization removed over 60 bags of garbage from a 5.8 km stretch, which was handed over to the Kochi Municipal Corporation.[1]
