Ram Subramanian (born January 31, 1979) is an Indian advertising film producer, screenwriter, film director, and activist. He is the founder of Handloom Picture Company, a production house established in 2012. Ram is also known as the "Voice of Ram," a peace activist who created the Profile for Peace campaign, which went viral in India and Pakistan with over 200,000 participants.
Early life[edit]
Ram Subramanian was born in Mumbai to Raman and Vasantha Kumari Subramanian in 1979. At the age of seven, he moved to Pollachi, a town near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu when his father was transferred out of Mumbai. Ram studied at LMS in Pollachi for three years before moving to Bangalore. He completed his 10th from KV DRDO and PUC (equivalent to 12th standard) from Baldwins Methodist College. He studied BSc in Electronics from Christ College for two years before dropping out in the third year to pursue a job in advertising.
Career[edit]
Ram worked as a copywriter for Grey Worldwide in Bengaluru before moving to Mumbai to work at Contract Advertising and Ogilvy. He became a creative director at Ogilvy before shifting to Nirvana Films as an ad film director. Ram won numerous awards for his work as a copywriter and director, including a D&AD pencil for a short film series Mute, Unmute and Pause.
In 2012, Ram founded Handloom Picture Company, a production house that has won several awards for its innovative content. He is currently working on a feature film and developing other long-format projects. Ram has also volunteered with the Aam Aadmi Party during the 2015 and 2019 Delhi elections as an advisor to Arvind Kejriwal.
Activism[edit]
Ram is a peace activist who created the Profile for Peace campaign, which went viral in India and Pakistan with over 200,000 participants. He is also a vocal member of the Indian civil society and uses art and spoken word videos to create positive change under the digital-pseudonym “Voice Of Ram.”
Personal life[edit]
Ram Subramanian is married to Audrey Celerier in 2015. He is known for his passion for cinema and his dedication to his craft. In an interview, he mentioned that he was inspired by the works of filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, and Quentin Tarantino.
