Reef Dispensaries

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Reef Dispensaries is a recreational and medical marijuana dispensary and cultivation facility with locations in Nevada and Arizona, run by Tryke Companies. It is the manufacturer of strains endorsed by rappers Wiz Khalifa and Berner.

History

Reef Dispensaries was founded[when?] by Matthew Morgan, who had previous experience starting marijuana companies in Montana and Arizona. His previous cannabis company in Montana closed in 2012 after state marijuana laws changed, leading to the creation of Bloom Dispensaries in Arizona. He then left Bloom after being approached by a private investor to start Tryke Companies and Reef Dispensaries in 2014.[1] Reef Dispensaries currently has six locations, operating in the states of Arizona and Nevada.[2] The dispensary's design has been compared to that of an Apple Store, [3] of which Morgan says he is a big fan.[1]

In addition to its public dispensary storefronts, Tryke has two indoor cultivation facilities, one in Arizona, and another in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas cultivation facility will stand at 165,000 square feet.[4] [5] The Nevada cultivation uses a centralized chilling system to cool the facility, which cuts the cost of air-conditioning in half, as well as a reverse osmosis system to recycle up to 75,000 gallons of water per day. [6]

Partnerships

The company has formed commercial partnerships with rappers Berner and Wiz Khalifa to create strains endorsed by them, called Exotikz and Khalifa Kush.[7] [8]

In August of 2017, Reef Dispensaries announced a partnership with Los Angeles cultivators The Jungle Boys to release branded cannabis strains under the Exotikz banner. [9]

Nevada Recreational Sales Launch

Reef Dispensaries received national media attention for the launch of recreational marijuana sales in Las Vegas, NV when the law took effect on July 1st, 2017. Described as "a massive block party to commemorate the occasion," [10] the event was "lit up by fireworks" [11] with people "lined up by the hundreds" [12] to purchase legal weed. The first legal recreational cannabis purchase was made at midnight on July 1st, 2017 by Nevada state senator Tick Segerblom, [13] who was instrumental in passing legal cannabis laws in the state.
