Reena Gupta is an Indian politician and the national spokesperson...[1] for the Aam Aadmi Party. She is the advisor[2][3] to Gopal Rai, Minister of Environment, Forest and Wildlife, GNCTD [4].

She is also a member of SEIAA (State Level Environmental Impact Assessment Authority)[5], Delhi and a steering committee member[6] of the DDCD (Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi), the policy think tank of GNCTD[7][8].

Education[edit]

Reena Gupta is a lawyer and holds a Masters from the Heller School of Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University, Massachusetts[9][10].

Career[edit]

Gupta has worked at the grassroots and the policy/ advocacy level on issues of environment and sustainable development for more than two decades at AMUL milk cooperative, Oxfam America and the World Bank[10][11].

In order to join the 2011 Indian anti-corruption movement in Delhi as an activist and later as a volunteer with the Aam Aadmi Party, she gave up her illustrious position at the World Bank in 2013. This marked the beginning of her active political career[12].

Activism[edit]

She has written extensively about the danger of pesticides in India and has been actively involved in the Safe Food Movement[13][14][15][16]. She is vocal[17][18][19] about air pollution, environmental issues, and social justice and regularly writes columns in Indian newspapers like the Times of India, the Indian Express, Hindustan Times, etc.[20][21][22][18].

Policy and Legislative wins[edit]

She legislated the policy which mandated vehicle aggregators and providers of delivery services to convert their fleet to electric vehicles with annual targets in a time-bound manner[23][24]. Post which she advocated for legislation enacting comparable mandates with neighbouring state and federal governments to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles[25].

Pollution Reduction Efforts[edit]

Gupta helped in the creation of the Real Time Source Apportionment system which identifies the main pollution causes and a time-bound measurable action plan to curb variable polluting sources while serving as the advisor to Delhi's Environment Minister [26][27]

She was the brain behind the creation of the Green War Room and the Green Delhi App[28]. Citizens can now report incidents of localized pollution and other environmental issues with the Green Delhi mobile app. The Green War Room which is operational 24x7 tracks the complaints to locate air pollution hotspots and is used to develop action strategies.

She played a key role in "Yudh Pradhushan Ke Virudh", a state-wide participatory citizen engagement effort to combat air pollution in Delhi[29]

Other Initiatives[edit]

Gupta is also leading 'Greening Delhi' which is the Delhi government’s two-pronged program to modernize neighbourhood parks with top-notch amenities while transforming vacant lots in Delhi into neighbourhood community parks and forests[30][31]

As a part of DDCD, she contributed to the initiative to increase the green cover of the city and organised free urban farming workshops to encourage and support citizens in growing vegetables and fruits in a sustainable and pesticide-free environment.
