Rory John Gates (born May 23, 1999) is an American media figure and the only son of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and philanthropist Melinda French Gates.
Early life and education
Rory John Gates was born on May 23, 1999, in Seattle, Washington. He is the second of three children and the only son born to [[Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates. He has an older sister, Jennifer Katharine Gates]], and a younger sister, Phoebe Adele Gates.[1]
Gates attended Lakeside School, a private school in Seattle also attended by his father.[2] He subsequently enrolled at Duke University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and economics. Following his undergraduate studies, he pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Chicago.[3]
Personal life
Gates was raised in his family's residence, Xanadu 2.0, overlooking Lake Washington in Medina, Washington. His upbringing was noted for strictly limiting screen time and banning mobile phones until age 14, a parenting choice publicly discussed by his father regarding technology use.[4]
His mother, Melinda French Gates, has publicly described him as a feminist in essays and social media posts, noting his supportive relationship with his sisters.[1]
In 2018, Chicago media outlets reported that Gates purchased a home in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago.[5]
