At first, the movie was set to be made into a short-film of 20 minutes for the 7 Days Challenge competition organised by the Mauritius Film Development Corporation[2] in 2017. Having missed the deadline for submission, the director, Hitesh Appadu, decided to give a greater touch to this project, which is, to make it a full-length feature movie.

After facing several issues during production, in September 2018, the director released the first Teaser of the movie and decided to release the movie in December 2018. However, due to further inconveniences, it was decided that movie production will be improved and some scenes are to be reshot. Finally, the release date is due on the 13th of April 2019. Development[edit]

In 2016, Hitesh had created a short-film entitled BULLIED[4] which won three awards at the first edition of the Intercollege Film Competition organised by the Mauritius Film Development Corporation. Following its success, the director decided to move on to greater projects. This movie project was written and filmed before the title was decided. The title "San Twa Pena Mwa" was given to the project in August 2018.

As mentioned, San Twa Pena Mwa was initially a short-film project under the title "Sauve Moi" and had a different plot. In December 2017, during the National Auditions organised by Himster Productions[1], the crew began shooting with the four leads. Due to persistent problems, the deadline for submission of the short-film was crossed and the production stopped. In January 2018, Hitesh decided that he would give this project another and turn it to a Feature Movie. It was decided that much work needed to be done to the storyline and was thus, changed; new characters, scenes and twists were added. He started writing the story with new changes and introducing new plots. Production was planned to resume in February 2018 but due to cyclonic conditions, it could not be done. After several writing process and preparations, production, eventually, resumed in May 2018 and was expected to end by August 2018 as the official launch of Trailer was planned for the 15th of September 2018. Again, due to time shortage and financial issues, the production lasted longer; with new plots added throughout the process. Production ended in March 2019, exactly one month before the release date of the movie.

Support[edit]

In April 2018, the director approached the Mauritius Film Development Corporation[2] for technical assistance where he was supported by the organisation's General Manager, Sachin Jootun. The latter also helped Hitesh in idea development, production and directing experience. Sachin guided Hitesh in some projects in order to inculcate his good knowledge into him.

In February 2019, Hitesh approached MCiné[3] in order to release the movie in theatres in April 2019.

Filming[edit]

Filming began in December 2017 and ended in March 2019. Sceneries of Mauritius were shot.
