Sashaank Ramakrishnan is an Indian mandolin player in Carnatic, Hindustani and western music who also plays covers for various songs on Youtube.
Early life and background
Sashaank was born in Chennai in Tamil Nadu. At the age of six, he started getting trained under the guidance of mandolin maestro Shri U.P.Raju who is a cousin of the renowned musician Padmashri U. Srinivas. Two years later Sashaank moved to Jabalpur where he got trained in Hindustani music under the guidance of Shri Prakash Verulkar for four years. When Sashaank returned to Chennai he continued his training under the guidance of violinist Mrs. Anusha a disciple of Padmashri Smt. A. Kanyakumari.
Career
He made his debut public Carnatic concert performance in 2017 during the Margazhi festival at Meenakshi Sundararajan Fine Arts Academy in Chennai. Thereafter he performed many small-time Kutcheris in temples. He also plays and uploads covers for various Indian and Western music that he comes across on Youtube.
Prizes
Sashaank won First prize in Annamacharya 603 Jayanthi Utsav Akhandam Keerthanas competition conducted by Indian Telugu Association, Chennai in 2011. He is also a recipient of Yuvashree Kala Bharathi award by Bharathi Yuva Kendra, Madurai.
