Sherifah Tumusiime

Sherifah Tumusiime, is a Ugandan businesswoman. She is the CEO and Co-founder of Zimba Group LTD,[1]She is also a founder of The Baby Store UG.[2][3] Sherifah is mentioned among women Who Are Championing Uganda's Tech Scene [4]

Education and background[edit]

Sherifah attended Shimoni Demonstration school in Wakiso, studied at Mt.St. Mary's College Namagunga in Mukono and Nabisunsa Girls School in Kampala. She holds a Bachelor of Computer Science from Makerere University, Uganda. She also studied Business and Entrepreneurship at Clark Atlanta University in Georgia, Atlanta US. She is a certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt and has various industry certifications from organizations such as Cisco Certified Network Associate Routing and Switching (CCNA) and Africa Network Operators Group and Microsoft.

Career[edit]

She is an entrepreneur using technology to build strong SME's in Africa[5]. She is pursuing an MBA with a focus on entrepreneurship and financing of small businesses in emerging markets at the East and Southern Africa Management Institute.[6]She spoke at RightsCon, Silicon Valley in 2016[7] and the shoko Digital Festival in Harare. Sherifah has received awards and honors such as the Commonwealth Youth Award for Excellence in Development Work as the Regional Winner for Africa & Europe 2018;[8] and the MTN Uganda Women in Business Finalist for Excellence in ICT in 2016[9] She is the Africa school on Internet Governance Fellow in Durban, South Africa 2016;[10] and Mandela Washington Fellow 2015[11][12][13]

Other Considerations[edit]

She mentors and helps other young entrepreneurs during her free time[14]. Tumusiime has a special interest in how public policies relates to the internet/technology and how they can be designed to accelerate the productive role of startups in their local entrepreneurial ecosystem[15]. She is currently volunteering at Women ICT Advocacy Group (WIAG),an advocacy group spearheaded by Women of Uganda Network that advocates for Internet Access for all, offering technical advice and support.[16]
