Zahara Toto

Zahara Toto (born as Nalumansi Zahara) is a Ugandan TV and radio personality. She is a master of ceremonies at NBS Television and Next Radio, which are companies owned by Next Media Services. She hosts a show dubbed Uncut on NBS Television and Sanyuka TV and a show titled The Lounge on Next Radio.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Zahara was born in 1985 to Mr. Oman a truck driver and Ms. Betty Mbabazi a businesswoman at Nsambya Hospital. She is the second born out the five children. She studied from Makindye Nursery School before she joined Kibuli Police Children School from where she completed her primary level. She then went to Muyega High School where she studied for one term and then changed to Kisubi High School from where she completed her Uganda Certificate of Education. Zahara was introduced by the then-boyfriend and became a housewife after her Uganda Certificate of Education. Later Zahara opted for adult education and finished her Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education. Toto then pursued a Diploma in marketing.[1]

Work and experience[edit]

In her primary seven vacations, Zahara Toto hosted the Kid's News show on WBS TV (no longer existing) that could air every weekend before the Teen's Club show. In her Form two, Zahara joined the Obsessions group which was a girl group as a singer and dancer. This group had other members like Sheeba, Jackie O, Daisy and Sharon O but she left the group due to management issues. After quitting the Obsessions, Toto decided to revive her TV career. She called her friend Rose Mary who had joined NTV Uganda as a news anchor who connected Zahara to the Late Steven who was the producer of the newly established program called T-nation, and Zahara became the first presenter of the T-nation show. In her senior four, she was introduced by the boyfriend and since the T-nation program was targeting the youth, Zahara could not continue doing the show because she become married and she had turned out to be a mother and she currently a mother of three.[1] After her Uganda Certificate of Education, Zahara Toto joined a girls singing group called Chille Girls which was created by Universal Entertainment but she still quit the group because of management issues.[1]

She later joined a dance group called Maisha Dancers which helped her in becoming a video vixen. She featured in many videos including Omusomesa by Jamal, Ayagala Mulasi by Bobi Wine and many more videos. Later joined East Africa Media as a public relations officer after she had left Maisha Dancers a title that also enabled her to become Public Relations Officer of Club Venom that was located in Kabalagala and after one year she joined club Play still under the department of marketing as the Public Relations Officer.[1]

When Spark TV opened in December 2015 Zahara Toto was invited to be among the presenters of the station whose target were strictly ladies. According to Toto, she was supposed to do a show called Trends but the management came up with a new gossip show called Live Wire and because of her talent and voice tone, they decided to put her on the show. She was later joined by Annatalia Oze who was her co-host of the show.[1][2]

In 2018, Zahara and Annatalia Oze both decided to quit the Live wire show Spark TV to join Next Media services which were offering better salary and privileges to the duo. At Next Media Services, its management came up with a new show called Uncut Kalakata which was going to air from Monday to Friday on both NBSTV and Sanyuka TV. This decision helped Zahara Toto to also start her radio career since Next Media owned Next Radio. She was given a show called The Lounge which airs on Next radio.[3][1][4]

Alongside her job as a Radio and TV personality, Zahara Toto has hosted many events which include Star QT fashion show that was held in Johannesburg and Capetown in South Africa.[5]
