The Sidemen, originally the Ultimate Sidemen, are a British entertainment collective of seven YouTube personalities: Olajide "JJ" Olatunji (KSI), Simon Minter (Miniminter), Joshua Bradley (Zerkaa), Tobi Brown (TBJZL), Ethan Payne (Behzinga), Vikram Barn (Vikkstar123), and Harry Lewis (Wroetoshaw). The group officially formed via Rockstar Games Social Club with the first five members on 19 October 2013. They were initially known for their video game commentary, but have since expanded to cover comedic skits, vlogs, and other online content.

The group's YouTube channel, Sidemen, was created in 2016 and was initially used for streaming the group's annual charity football match. It wasn't until 2018 when the Sidemen decided to start regularly using this channel. Since the beginning of January 2018, the group have been uploading a video once per week to the Sidemen YouTube channel. The videos see the guys take on different challenges and games. A new video is released every Sunday, leading to the videos being dubbed "Sidemen Sundays". The Sidemen also have a second YouTube channel called "MoreSidemen" which they created in February 2018, where they upload videos which they jokingly deem "not good enough" to be uploaded to the main Sidemen YouTube channel, as well as gaming videos, behind the scenes footage, and compilations.

Formation[edit]

Bradley and Brown both attended Bexley Grammar School in London. Although they were not in the same class, they had a mutual group of friends and walked home together every day. Meanwhile, Olatunji and Minter both attended Berkhamsted School in Hertfordshire and became friends in Year 9.

Bradley was the first to upload a video to YouTube, doing so in December 2009, with Olatunji uploading his first video in January 2010, and Barn uploading his in June 2010.

In 2011, Barn met Olatunji for the first time at Gamesfest in Birmingham, and soon after, met Bradley and Brown for the first time at Eurogamer in London. Olatunji then met Bradley and Brown for the first time in April 2012 while attending a YouTubers day out at Alton Towers.

Between April and July 2012, Brown, Payne, and Lewis all uploaded their first YouTube videos.

In November 2012, Olatunji brought Minter along to a video shoot with YouTuber Callum "Callux" McGinley, who was also joined by Brown, therefore making this the first time Minter and Brown had met. Soon after in December 2012, Minter met Bradley for the first time while on a night out with Olatunji, and he then met Barn for the first time in August 2013 at Gamescom in Germany, with Olatunji, Bradley and Brown also in attendance. On 19 October 2013, Olatunji, Minter, Bradley, Brown, and Payne created the Rockstar Games Social Club group "Ultimate Sidemen" in the then-recently released Grand Theft Auto Online, with Barn joining in later on after participating in several sessions with the group. Although the six had been playing online together for a while by this point, they didn't meet Payne in person until November 2013 at Nando's in Westfield London.

In January 2014, Bradley met Lewis while at a FIFA gaming event in New York City. Bradley introduced Lewis to the rest of the group in March 2014 at Eurogamer. However, Olatunji was not present due to being banned from all Eurogamer-held events in 2012. The group then decided to all meet up at Thorpe Park in May 2014, making this the first time all seven had been together in person.
