History[edit]
Signature Tracks was founded in Los Angeles by Russell Howard, Adam Malka, and David Lasman in 2008. The trio are childhood friends who attended Lower Merion High School together in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[1]
Howard, a rapper and producer, began producing music at the age of 12. After graduating high school, he was signed to Sony to produce Kobe Bryant's album.[2][3] He then met Jay-Z, who purchased the tracks "S. Carter" and "There's Been a Murder".[4] The two tracks were later featured on Jay-Z's album Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter, which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2000.[5] Howard then signed a deal with Babyface Edmonds' label as an in-house producer, for whom he produced tracks for DMX, Lupe Fiasco, Paris Hilton, Paul Wall and Seal. Previously, Malka, a guitarist, co-wrote and co-produced for American rock band Trapt and British musician Seal, and Lasman, a television producer, served as co-executive television producer on multiple shows, including Millionaire Matchmaker and Alpha Dogs.[6]
Signature Tracks was founded in 2008. The "cutting edge" company was hired during its first week in business to compose original music for The CW series Hitched or Ditched. With a focus on "bringing current sounds to TV series", they have served television networks such as MTV, VH1, A&E, ABC, CNBC, and the Discovery Channel, and over 500 shows, including Keeping Up With the Kardashians, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, Unfriended, People's Choice Awards, The Jim Jefferies Show, Mob Wives, Below Deck, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and The Price is Right.[7][8][9]
The company has created music for online brands which specialize in original content creation, including Vice, Complex, Kevin Hart's LOL Network, and Twitter. It provides music in genres spanning hip-hop, rock, jazz, R&B, rap, and contemporary.[10]
