Simon Helbling
Hello, thank you for the advice. I removed the following references: media releases of the football association and the references to the personal website. That is indeed different on the German Wikipedia. As the SRG SSR is constitutionally bound to neutral and independent reporting, I left this reference. In case it doesn't apply nevertheless to Wikipedia regulations, I'll remove it as well. Energlantsch (talk) 10:32, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
Simon Helbling (born 1986) is a Swiss film director and screenwriter.[1]
Life
Simon Helbling grew up in the village of Andwil in the canton of St. Gallen. He completed his master's degree at the London Film School in 2021.[2]
Work
He began his directing career in theatre, making his first short film "Retour" in 2010.[3] Today he also directs films, music videos and commercials.[4][5][6]
In 2017, his film "The Sea That Is a Shimmering Desert" won the award for best Swiss film at the Mobile Motion Film Festival – a festival that honors films produced with smartphones.[7]
In 2018, he also sat on the jury of the Mobile Motion Film Festival Zurich,[8] and a year later on the jury of the Dublin edition of the same name.[9]
The Weight Of The Land
In 2019, he successfully financed the short film "The Weight Of The Land" via crowdfunding.[1] The film is set in Toggenburg – a region of the Canton of St. Gallen – and tells the story of Marta, a farmer, who struggles with the debts left behind by her late father. It explores themes of family relationships, toxic masculinity, and financial hardship. The film represented his final project at the London Film School.[10]
The Pressure Game
In the six-part series "The Pressure Game" Helbling portrays the footballers of the Swiss national team. The narrative focuses on the protagonists and their personal stories.[11][12]
From March 2022, the director was present at every reunion and every trip of the team. Filming will last until the end of December 2022. Helbling developed the idea for the documentary together with Samy Ebneter, freelancer for the Swiss Football Association.[13]
The client is the Swiss radio and television company SRG SSR, on whose stations the first broadcast in Switzerland will also take place from March 22, 2023.[14]
