Squar Milner LLP is one of the Top 50 largest accounting firms[1] in the United States and one of the largest in California. Originally based in Newport Beach, California, the firm later moved their headquarters to Irvine, California.[2] Accordingly, the firm's physical presence throughout the state has grown to include offices in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, San Mateo, Los Angeles, Encino and San Diego. They also have an international presence in the Cayman Islands.

Squar Milner provides tax, audit, consulting and wealth management services to both publicly and privately held companies in a number of industries including biotechnology, real estate, life sciences, cannabis, semiconductor, pharmaceuticals and more.
The firm is currently a member of Allinial Global, one of the largest global public accounting firm associations. Allinial Global includes 191 member firms representing 538 locations across 71 countries.[3]
Mergers[edit]
After establishing their headquarters in Orange County, Squar Milner expanded their reach throughout California.
Southern California[edit]
In 1999, Squar Milner opened Squar Milner Financial Services, LLC.[4]
The first major merger occurred in 2006. The firm merged with Peterson & Co., an accounting firm in San Diego. After establishing a presence in San Diego, the firm merged in McLean, Rotherham & Co. and its subsidiary Hosaka, Rotherham & Co. in February 2016.[5] Prior to the merger, McLean Rotherham had taken up roots in San Diego in 1951, making it one of the oldest firms in the area.
Subsequently, the firm expanded their Los Angeles office through a 2008 merger with Thomashow, Brown & Paialii.[6] Years later in 2014, the company again grew the Los Angeles practice by merging in Steve Blatt's Management Group.
In 2008, the firm opened their first international office in the Cayman Islands.[7]
Three years later, in 2011, Squar Milner extended their Los Angeles region reach by entering the San Fernando Valley area. There they merged with White Zuckerman's Tax Practice in Encino, CA. Furthering their Encino practice, Squar Milner later merged in Solomon Winnett in 2016[8] and Sobelman, Cohen, Moss & Associates in 2017.[9]
Northern California/Bay Area[edit]
First to join the firm in the Bay Area was Loomis & Co. in Campbell, CA in November 2017.[10] The office was the first Northern California presence for the firm and marked entrance into the Silicon Valley region.
With perhaps the most notable merger to date, Squar Milner entered San Francisco, Oakland and San Mateo through a major merger with DZH Phillips LLP in January 2018.[11] At the time of the merger, DZH Phillips was one of the largest majority women-owned firms in the Bay Area.
Squar Milner continued to grow their San Francisco practice with two mergers early in 2019. First was Boas & Boas, one of San Francisco's oldest firms, in January,[12] followed by Louie & Wong LLP in February.[13]
Firm Demographics[edit]
As of 2019, Squar Milner's workforce is 55% female. This sits significantly higher than the national average for CPA firms in the United States. A 2019 American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) trends report on Certified Public Accountant (CPA) firm demographics in the U.S. found that women comprised only 47% of the total number of Professional Staff at U.S. CPA firms.[14]
Per their website in October 2019, Squar Milner features 68 partners of which 20 are women. Women make up 29.4% of the total number of partners, again sitting above the national average for U.S. CPA firms. The same 2019 AICPA report on firm demographics, revealed that of the partners working at U.S. CPA firms, only 23% were women.
