St. Rheils are a fictional French football team in the British comic universe. The team have appeared in the We are United strip of Champ in 1984. The club’s name is a fusion referring to Saint Etienne FC and Reims FC.
History
In 82/83 the club won the French Cup and qualified to Cup Winners Cup. In 83/84 St. Rheils enjoyed a tremendous season: they won the Cup and the French championship. The stars in the team were midfielder captain Sacha Hildago and French World Cup star (1982), Dominique Plateau. They also reached the final of Cup Winners Cup in May 1984 but lost 2-1 to Hamyern. In the summer of 1984, the club hosted in the ‘’Mini European Nations Cup’’ in France, a 6-team friendly international tournament and were one of the favourites to win it. They reached the final but they lost 2-1 to Riverton United in Paris. It was the second defeat in a European final in that season. They qualified for the European Cup in the 84/85 season (like Southpool).
