Stan Kakudo Richardson is a renowned shakuhachi player who has dedicated his life to the art of traditional Japanese music. A British master player and teacher of the shakuhachi, a traditional bamboo flute. Born in Coventry, England, in 1952, developed a passion for music at the young age. He started studying the recorder, the violin and viola at early age and by the time he was eight, Stan had begun composing classical music.[1]

Intrigued by the spiritual musical traditions of Japan and China, Stan embarked on a journey to study the shakuhachi in 1972. His studies took him to New York to study with Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin and Kyoto with some of Japan's most esteemed masters, including Yodo Kurahashi.

He received his Shihan, and the name Kakudo from Yoshio Kurahashi sensei. Presently, Stan leads the Mujuan Shakuhachi Dojo in Texas.[2]

He has shared stages with Riley Lee, Christopher Yohmei Blasdel, Cornelius Boots, Ronnie Nyogetsu Reishin Seldin, and Yodo Kurahashi among others. He has played shakuhachi in venues as the National Museum of Asian Art, the Crow Museum of Asian Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston [3], the Kimbell Art Museum, among other venues.
