TEAMtalk (website)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

TEAMtalk is a football media brand and website established in 1997. Based in Leeds with a team of 52 writers, the site contains sections for all clubs in the FA Premier League and EFL Championship. TEAMtalk features a 'Your Say' section, allowing users of the site to comment on the football stories of the day.

History

Operated by Planet Sport, TEAMtalk grew out of the football premium rate telephone lines phenomenon of the 1980s and early 1990s, progressing to become a website focusing on rapid reporting of football transfers and football news.[1]

The TEAMtalk business was listed on the London Stock Exchange as TEAMtalk Group plc in 2000 and then made a series of acquisitions. As a result, TEAMtalk briefly also became an AM sports radio station, TEAMtalk 252, broadcasting from Ireland using the equipment bought from Atlantic 252. This station opened and closed in 2002.

TEAMtalk was acquired by ukbetting plc in 2002, which became 365 Media Group plc in 2006.

The site relaunched in time for FIFA World Cup 2006 with a new look and a video player named TEAMtalk TV on the homepage which allows site users to watch football features and clips.

TEAMtalk and the other brands within the 365 Media Group business were acquired by BSkyB in 2006–7.[2] TEAMtalk group businesses TEAMtalk Broadcast and its sister company TEAMtalk Satellite were spun out and rebranded as Headland Media in May 2008. In May 2013, the business was sold to KVH Industries Inc.[3]

In 2015, Ole Media Group took over the publishing of TEAMtalk. As of 2021, TEAMtalk is now published by Planet Sport Limited in Leeds, following a merger between Ole Media’s Planet Sport Publishing arm and YorMedia Solutions.[4]
