Tallis Duncan (Born 18 April 2002), is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who plays as a member of the extended squad for the South Sydney Rabbitohs and internationally for the Malta national rugby league team.[2] [3]

Duncan signed with the South Sydney U20 team in 2021 and was named in their Black Rabbits Elite Player Development squad that same year. He was previously a member of the Sydney Roosters junior reps program.[4]

Background[edit]

Duncan was born in Figtree, New South Wales, Australia, and attended Matraville Sports High School. Duncan was named after international Rugby League player Gordon Tallis. He said Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was his favorite player growing up, enjoying his hard hitting and aggressive play style. He went on to say that former Australian rugby league footballer Brett Gillard was a strong influence on his playstyle and work ethic, adding "he's taught me pretty much everything I know about footy".[5]

Playing Career[edit]

Early Years[edit]

Duncan played his junior rugby league for Paddington Colts in the South Sydney District Junior Rugby Football League. Duncan went on to sign with the Sydney Roosters S.G. Ball side in the S.G. Ball Cup. [6] He was named Best Forward for the 2019 season.[7] After the 2020 season was called off due to COVID-19[8] Duncan went on to sign with the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the 2021 season.

2021[edit]

Duncan made his debut for the South Sydney S.G. Ball side in 2021 and was given the sides Player of the Year Award. He was then named in the South Sydney Jersey Flegg side for the duration of the 2021 season[9], during which he gained selection into the Black Rabbits Elite Player Development squad.[4] Duncan was also named in the Malta national rugby league team for their game against the Lebanon national rugby league team for international rugby league weekend.[10] Following the conclusion of the 2021 season he re-signed with South Sydney until 2025. [11]

2022[edit]

Duncan was named in the Rabbitohs side for the 2022 NRL Trials.[12] He made his debut against the North Queensland Cowboys, with the Rabbitohs losing 24-12.[12] [13] Duncan was sent to the Sin Bin in the 62nd minute of the game, and was later charged with a Grade 1 Dangerous Tackle. [14] [15] Duncan was named in the Malta international side and represented them on June 22 against the Lebanon national rugby league team. Duncan played the remainder of the 2022 season as a member of the South Sydney NSW Cup side. [16] [17][18] Duncan was named the Player of the Year and Player's Player for the 2022 Jersey Flegg Cup season.[19] [20]
