Steven Lewis, Jr. (born November 14, 2006), known professionally as tana, (formerly known as BabySantana), is an American rapper, producer, and audio engineer. He rose to popularity with his songs "14" (with Ka$hdami) and "Antisocial" which gained traction throughout TikTok, SoundCloud & YouTube. He signed to his first major label Galactic/Republic Records in late 2021.
Early life
Steven Lewis was born on November 14, 2006, in Columbus, Georgia and was raised by his single mother, due to separation. Growing up in Columbus, Lewis and his older brother would work at a bread factory, where he would save up money to buy equipment to make songs — along with financial help from his supportive mother. He would record his songs in a small closet in his house, while engineering, mixing and mastering all of his songs on Audacity at the time. He has now upgraded to FL Studio.
Lewis grew up being heavily inspired by the Chicago rap scene led by Chief Keef and the late Fredo Santana, who inspired his rap name, along with BabyTron.[2] He has also stated XXXTentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God are his idols.
Career
2018: Beginnings
The career of Lewis started his successful music career in 2018 from the YouTube channel and the SoundCloud page for sharing the music genre. He began making music at age 11.[3] He formed the now-defunct FifteenHunnid (1500) collective with his friends. Members in this collective include Slump6s, Maajins, Luisss, and PCAJay amongst others.[4]
2020-21: Breakthrough
Lewis then received mainstream attention in 2020, after his single “Prada” went viral on platforms including TikTok; which would lead to a remix with Lil Tecca.[5] He released three projects in that year; those being Recreation, Quan, and Planet Sosa.
Lewis' career would later peak in 2021, after his single Antisocial, featuring Slump6s, would go viral on platforms; which also lead to an official sequel with SSGKobe, Xhulooo and Yung Fazo.
Alongside Lil Tecca, Lewis is associated with artists including KA$HDAMI, Midwxst, yvngxchris among others. He is currently signed to Galactic Records, a subsidiary of Republic Records, although he still continues to release music independently through his SoundCloud and YouTube pages.[6] He is considered to be part of a new generation of SoundCloud rappers who are "adopting a similar aesthetic and rip-roaring rebellious sound".[7] He and fellow rapper Ka$hdami, featured on the Lyrical Lemonade YouTube channel with their track "14". on July 20, 2021.[8] In September 2021, he was featured on Midwxst's EP Back In Action.[9]
