Tariq Al Barwani (Arabic طارق البرواني; born July 1979) is a motivational speaker in Oman who is best known for creating projects in information technology and delivering presentations that help develop people and organizations.[1][2][3] He has created radio and TV programs in partnership with Oman government's Ministry of Information that supported talents interviews and has also created a knowledge sharing platform called Knowledge Oman that provides free seminars, workshops and training.[4]
Education[edit]
Al Barwani has a master’s degree in information technology from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. He also has a bachelor’s degree with honors in computer science from Acadia University, Canada, and a diploma in information systems from Aptech Advanced Computer Institute, Oman.[5]
Career[edit]
At age 19, he created a simplified program for the nascent Omantel internet services to automate configuration processes. Subsequently, he completed his education, and returned to Oman. He founded Knowledge Oman in 2008, a community platform run by volunteers to empower local communities by connecting them with information.
Al Barwani works for the London Speaker Bureau as a motivational speaker.[3]
Knowledge Oman[edit]
Knowledge Oman was created on April 1, 2008 to support the vision of the ruler Sultan Qaboos of Oman for transforming the country into a knowledge society. Events in the form of seminars, workshops, and training have been organized by Knowledge Oman members in partnership with private and government organizations.[6][7][8]
Knowledge Oman was recognized with an International Standard Web Technology Award at the Oman Web Awards 2019, Brand Leadership Award at the World Brand Congress in 2010, Outstanding contribution to the cause of education at the Human Resource Developed Conference 2012, and a Golden Strategic Award for Culture at the PAN Arab Awards 2013.
In 2018, Knowledge Oman has introduced a project branded under the title “Giving Back” that consolidates charitable causes it has been engaging with its members since 2008. Gifts were distributed to children at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, IT Infrastructure setup was supported at Al Noor Blind Association, children library computers were set up in Muscat and Musanah, visits made and spent with Elderly at Rustaq Care house, and educational materials were distributed to academic institutions such as University of Nizwa, the German University of Technology and the Middle East College of Information Technology. Food distribution to needy families is organized during Ramadhan. In 2018, Knowledge Oman has introduced a project branded under the title “Giving Back” that consolidates charitable causes it has been engaging for the community with its members since 2008.
He left the role of President in 2014 but remains as the adviser to new appointed presidents and financially support the operation of the organization.[9]

His projects have earned him multiple local, GCC and international awards.

- Awarded "Outstanding Entrepreneur who believes in the Spirit of Giving" at the Global Giving Awards 2018,[14]
Al Barwani's work has been recognized in the 2019 publication Leaders of Oman, by the Parisian communication and publication firm Omnia international.[15] He was also featured in Jawharat Oman as one of the top 40 achievers in the Sultanate of Oman in 2011. He was also nominated for the top 50 world technology leaders list during the Internet conference, Intercon 2019.[1]
