Tello Films

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Tello Films is an American over-the-top LGBTQ+ streaming platform and production company based in Nashville, Tennessee, focusing on titles by and for women in the LGBTQ+ community. Tello Films was founded in 2007 by Christin Baker.[1] The streaming platform, described as "like Netflix for lesbians"[2] features a mix of original content (largely digital web series) and acquired content (such as the BBC Three series Lip Service), as well as having original features available for rental and purchase.[3]

In 2019, the first Tello Films original feature, Season of Love, was released, followed by a second holiday feature, I Hate New Year's, with a third (Christmas at the Ranch) currently in post-production.[4] Script error: No such module "AfC submission catcheck".

2013-2018: Riley Parra, Nikki & Nora[edit]

In 2013, Tello Films ran an Indiegogo campaign to revive the 2004 cult classic television pilot Nikki and Nora as a digital web series, starring original leads Liz Vassey and Christina Cox.[5] The subsequent series, The N&N Files, was released on January 14th, 2014 on the Tello Films website.

In 2017, Tello Films released digital comedy series Secs & Execs, which followed a group of executives and assistants at a fictional company throughout a single day. Mindy Sterling received an Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series Daytime Emmy nomination for her role in the series, making Tello Films the first lesbian-oriented production company to receive an Emmy nomination.[6] That same year, Tello Films released the first season of the supernatural crime thriller series Riley Parra, based on the novels of the same name by author Geonn Cannon. A second season was released in 2018, and a compilation feature film (Riley Parra: Better Angels) was released in 2019.

2018-present: Holiday Features[edit]

In late 2018, Tello Films posted a "Holiday Pitch to Production" contest, inviting writers to pitch their idea for a holiday feature.[7] Three winners (including Season of Love and the forthcoming Christmas at the Ranch) were selected, and Season of Love entered production the following year in Los Angeles, California. Principal photography began in May 2019 and concluded in early June 2019. The film had a limited theatrical release in November 2019, followed by a VOD release on November 29th, 2019. The film starred Dominique Provost-Chalkley, Sandra Mae Frank, Jessica Clark, Emily Goss, and Janelle Marie, and featured an original song ("Lift Your Spirit Up") performed by Provost-Chalkley.[8]

Following the release of Season of Love, Tello Films announced their next feature film, I Hate New Year's, which starred Dia Frampton, Ashley Argota, and Candis Cayne. I Hate New Year's was filmed on location in Nashville, Tennessee over the course of two weeks in early 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there were no live events surrounding the film's release. I Hate New Year's was released on December 4th, 2020.[9]

In February 2021, Tello Films' third holiday feature, Christmas at the Ranch, was filmed on location in Lebanon, Tennessee. In March 2021, it was announced that a soundtrack featuring Provost-Chalkley would be released to accompany the film.[10] Christmas at the Ranch is set to be released in winter 2021.[11]
