Anthony West, better known online as Th3Birdman, is an American YouTuber from Los Angeles, California, best known for his satirical criticism of CinemaSins.
History[edit]
Th3Birdman created his channel in late 2008, where he claims to have created his channel in order to argue with another user. He began sporadically uploading now-deleted Street Fighter videos, which is where he gets his channel mascot/avatar from. These and other videos were of him playing Street Fighter 4, where he is shown to be the #1 ranked Blanka player on Playstation Network, under the screenname ANBU_Birdman15 (example).
Throughout 2017, Th3Birdman began uploading video game playthroughs on a regular schedule. It was during this time that he states he found his love for creating videos, and going through the editing process. On November 17, 2017, Th3Birdman uploaded JUSTICE LEAGUE MOVIE REVIEW | DID IT SUCK?, the first video in his Let's Talk series, an assortment of topical videos where he does movie reviews, or commentates on popular or controversial subjects.
Everything Wrong With CinemaSins[edit]
On March 9, 2018, Th3Birdman uploaded the first video in his Everything Wrong With CinemaSins series, Everything Wrong With CinemaSins: Blade Runner 2049. In this video, Th3Birdman flips the script and sins CinemaSins for their perceived errors, while sinning Blade Runner 2049. He claims the reason he created this video was two-fold: because CinemaSins said obviously wrong things about a movie that he liked; and, to help with his editing skills, but eventually found that he enjoyed the process of making the video so much, that he continued making the Everything Wrong With CinemaSins videos. A self-proclaimed fan of CinemaSins, Th3Birdman states that he just thought it would be funny if CinemaSins got a taste of their own medicine, or in his words: "Do to CinemaSins what CinemaSins does to movies."
Because of the tone of these videos, Th3Birdman has received criticism that he hates or is jealous of CinemaSins. He has, on numerous occasions, denied that he hates the channel, and even uploaded a video addressing the criticism, claiming "Birdman" is a character he plays in the video series.
In a 2018 Reddit post, Th3Birdman states:
...I made this out of love for (CinemaSins), not spite. Hell, I put a disclaimer in the video and in the description that I really like the channel. I’m not trying to ape their style; I used their style against them for humorous effect... CinemaSins has a very easy to do format so I used them because I know them very well. That, and the fact that they got some things wrong (and right!) about one of my favorite movies, Blade Runner 2049
Other Ventures[edit]
Th3Birdman is also a voice actor, known for his deep voice. He is known to have acted in the video game Elsinore. His voiceover demo can be found in a Twitter post. Th3Birdman states that he loves video games and has no intention to stop uploading game playthroughs to his channel, even after the success of the Everything Wrong With CinemaSins series. He plays these games live on Twitch
