young man named Hishām Al-ʻĀbir who lived in Dammam (al-ʻAdāmah), then moved to Riyadh (Al- šamīsī) to study there only for him to end up in a prison in Jeddah (Al-Karādīb) because of his participation in opposing political organizations. Al-Yaum stated on Turki Al-Hamad that Hishām Al-ʻĀbir represents Turki Al-Hamad which is what Turki denied in an interview with Al Arabiya. The trilogy created a media and social hype in Saudi Arabia, and was banned from selling because of crossing the political, religious, and sexual lines, and some fatwas that blasphemed Turki Al-Hamad because of this novel.[2]

The Prisons[edit]

Al-Karādīb[3] is the third novel for the Saudi author Turki Al-Hamad in his famous trilogy Aṭyāf al-aziqqaẗ al-mahjūraẗ. The novel describes the mental suffrage that Hishām Al-ʻĀbir goes through reaching its’ peak in this part. In Jeddah he starts by himself and the prison gives him the opportunity to take a trip to find himself, away from the ideals of Dammam and the bursts of Riyadh. He is alone now, and during this loneliness, he discovers what he couldn’t when he was under his mothers ideals and the strict party organization in Dammam and when he was downing in the physical life of Riyadh, all of the ideals fell apart, and lost its jouissance, so what is left? Al-Karādīb is the last trip for Al-ʻĀbir to find himself during a stage that is already lost between two stages.
