The Golfer’s Journal is an award-winning[1] independent golf quarterly featuring long-form journalism, written and photo essays, criticism, poetry, and artwork.
The magazine's mission statement is to “cover the game wherever it may be played, casting a sophisticated light on the culture, history, places, and characters that define the game’s unique personality and undeniable allure.”[2][3]
The Golfer’s Journal was founded by publisher Brendon Thomas in 2016. Based out of the Journal Concepts, Inc. headquarters in San Clemente, California[4], The Golfer’s Journal is the sister publication of The Surfer’s Journal.
The Magazine[edit]
Each quarterly issue is roughly 140 pages and built with high-end paper and ink. A different set of award-winning writers and photographers contribute to each edition.
In addition to the print publication, The Golfer’s Journal announced TGJ Digital in May 2020.[5] The digital edition includes access to the full archive of The Golfer’s Journal editorial, as well as online-only content, including a bi-weekly podcast[6].
The Golfer’s Journal also hosts various events worldwide, including the marquee “Broken Tee 2-Man” tournament at various notable and exclusive courses.
Reception[edit]
The book has received critical acclaim for its unique take on golf editorial as well as its high-quality design and presentation.[7][8]
In 2019, The Irish Examiner wrote that The Golfer’s Journal is “steering golf media in a new direction.”[9]
Also in 2019, Folio featured The Golfer’s Journal in an article, saying, “It's $20 an issue and every page feels like the protective paper stock in which Apple delivers its devices, so you know right off the bat that we’re talking super-luxe.”[10]
