Athletics[edit]
USA Track & Field (USATF) Masters Track and Field has held a National Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet every year since 1968 (except 2020). The meets have included stars, records, awards, and competitive competitions. Masters Track and Field (Athletics) has grown into an international competition as well [1].
USA National Masters Outdoor Track and Field Championship[edit]
Through the efforts of David Pain, Masters Track and Field and its first Outdoor Track and Field Championship began in 1968 [2]. The first competition was held July 19-21, 1968 in San Diego. The 1968 meet included Masters Men age 40 and older. The meet has continued until today (with the exception of 2020) [3]. The 1968 meet and for several years after included Programs providing time schedules, and athletes names & ages [4]. The 1971 meet (and future meets) added Women as part of the competition [5]. The 2019 meet included a complete set of running (sprints, middle distance, and long distance), hurdles, steeplechase, race walk, and field events (high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, hammer throw, and javelin), and relays [6].
The USA National Masters Outdoor Track and Field Championship has included many top-notch track and field athletes. The July 1968 meet included Fortune Gordien, and Bud Held as competitors [7]. The July 1969 meet included Senator Alan Cranston as a competitor [8]. The July 1970 meet included Arthur Barnard, Boo Morcom, Bob Richards, and Steve Seymour as competitors [9]. Recently Chaunté Lowe competed at the July 2015 USA National Masters Outdoor Track and Field Championship [10]. Nolan Shaheed distance runner and multi time Masters record holder, has been a multi-time Masters National Champion. Irene Obera sprinter and multi time Masters record holder, has been a multi-time Masters National Champion.
International Awards[edit]
Charles Allie and Rita Hanscom are an example of the some of the stars that have competed at the USA National Masters Outdoor Track and Field Championship. In 2013 Charles Allie traveled to Monaco (IAAF - World Athletes award meeting) to accept a male masters international athlete of the year award [11]. Rita Hanscom won the female version of the award in 2009 (in Monte Carlo) [12].
