USS LSM-316 was a LSM-1-class landing ship medium in the United States Navy during World War II. The ship was transferred to France as L9014 and South Korea as ROKS Sinmi (LSM-612).
Construction and career
LSM-316 was laid down on 6 April 1944 at the Pullman Co., Chicago, Illinois, launched on 18 June 1944 and commissioned on 21 July 1944, Lt. Leslie R. French in command.
During World War II, LSM-316 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater. She took part in the Ormoc Bay landing on 11 and 12 December 1944, Palawan Islands landings from 28 February to 10 March 1945, and the Visayan Island landings from 29 March to 2 April 1945.[1] After the war, she was assigned to occupation service in the Far East from 28 September 1945 until 6 December 1945.[2]
LSM-316 was decommissioned on 6 July 1946 but was recommissioned on 27 July 1950 during the Korean War.[3] The ship took part in the U.N. Summer-Fall Offensive on 27 November 1951 and the Second Korean Winter from 28 November to 3 December 1951. She was given occupation service again from 27 February to 1 April 1952.
She was loaned to the French on 26 January 1954.[4]
She was struck from the Navy Register.
The ship was commissioned into the French Navy on 28 June 1954 and renamed L9014.[4]
L9014 was then transferred to South Korea in October 1955 and commissioned on 18 October 1956, as ROKS Sinmi (LSM-661). The ship was later redesignated as LSM-661.
The ship was put out of service on 28 February 1998 with her fate unknown.
