USS LSM-479 was a LSM-1-class landing ship medium in the United States Navy during World War II. The ship was transferred to France but never commissioned.
Construction and career
LSM-479 was laid down on 3 February 1945 at Brown Shipbuilding Co., Houston, Texas. Launched on 24 February 1945 and commissioned on 3 April 1945, Lt. Merle S. Burdick in command.
During World War II, LSM-479 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater. She was assigned to occupation service in the Far East from 11 to 25 September 1945 and 6 October 1945 to 7 February 1946.[1]
LSM-479 was decommissioned on 19 December 1946.[2]
She was loaned to the French on 1 April 1954.[3]
She was struck from the Navy Register.
The ship was commissioned into the French Navy on 1 April 1954.[3][1] She returned to the US in October 1958 and then sold for scrap by Fleet Storage Corp in December 1958.
