Search Under the Oak Tree on Amazon.Under the Oak Tree (comic) is a romance fantasy webcomic based on a web novel by Kim Suji with art by P.[1] It is the intensely passionate love story of an unlikely couple, noble lady Maxi and gruff knight Riftan, who against all the odds find true love and acceptance in one another. The official English translation is available on the Manta platform, owned by the South Korean digital content company RIDI.[2]
Synopsis[edit]
The story begins when Maximilian “Maxi'' Croyso’s cruel father the Duke forces her to marry Riftan Calypse, the brooding leader of the Remdragon Knights. After just one night together, Riftan leaves Maxi without a word to go fight in a military campaign. But he returns three years later as a celebrated knight and hero, ready to claim his bride.
The timid Maxi is shy and anxious, unsure how to act around a man she barely knows, while the rough knight Riftan has no idea how to behave around a woman. After years of mental and physical abuse by her father, Maxi knows she has to make the marriage work, or her father will kill her. Riftan is self-conscious about his lower class, despite his heroic deeds as a knight. This is complicated by their continual miscommunications, which leave Riftan feeling rejected and Maxi terrified.
Despite their differences, Riftan and Maxi slowly learn how to get along with one another, leading to an explosive connection both in and out of the bedroom that blossoms into a deep love. But Maxi’s inferiority complex and lack of self-respect and Riftan’s hesitance to trust mean there is still tension between them. Can these two overcome their initial misunderstandings to find love?
Characters[edit]
Maximilian (“Maxi”) Croyso: a timid girl with a stutter, Maxi has survived years of physical and mental abuse at the hands of her father, Duke Croyso. Because of the physical and mental abuse, Maxi has developed a huge inferiority complex and a lack of self-respect, believing she is worthless.
Riftan Calypse: a lower-class knight whose time in the military raises him to the status of hero, Riftan is renowned for his abilities as a warrior and head of the Remdragon Knights. Though he is rough around the edges and can be gruff, he is a caring man who is well-liked by his people for his strength as a leader. He wants to make his marriage to Maxi work, despite being apart for three years, but he struggles to communicate effectively.
Ruth: a mage and Riftan’s subject. Though Ruth can be cocky and self-interested, his intelligence and skill with magic make him a powerful ally, and eventually a teacher for Maxi.
