Union Dubuque F.C. is an American semi-professional soccer club based in Dubuque, Iowa. Formed in 2017, The club competes in the Midwest Premier League, after moving from the United Premier Soccer League in late 2019. The team's primary colors are forest green, sky blue, and white.[1]

The club is the third soccer team to represent Dubuque in the city's history, after the original Dubuque Soccer Club of the 1930's and the Dubuque Steamers, beginning in the 1980's.

History[edit]

Union Dubuque F.C. was officially announced as an expansion club for the spring 2018 season of the United Premier Soccer League on October 26th, 2017.[2] In the November preceding their first season, it was announced that Loras College Assistant Coach Jon Denham would be the club's manager.[3] On March 2nd, 2018, the club announced that they would play at Dalzell Field on the campus of Dubuque Senior High School.

As a new type of venture in the city, the club received extensive coverage in the local media. [4] Union Dubuque played their first match in club history on May 5th, 2018 in Aurora, Illinois against Aurora Borealis SC, losing by a score of 2-1. On May 19th, the club hosted the Des Moines Menace of the Premier Development League in their first-ever home match, before a reported crowd of 370.[5]

Following the 2019 UPSL season, the club announced that its first-team would be departing the league for the newly-formed Midwest Premier League. In early 2020, manager Jon Denham resigned from his position, with the club appointing Clarke University coach and former US Youth National Team player Mike Paye as his replacement.

Union's most notable rivals include nearby teams Cedar Rapids Inferno and DeKalb County United
