Usele Community is an Itsekiri Community in Nigeria.[1] [2]

The Olu of Warri is the King of Warri Kingdom and, as such, he reigns over Usele Community like all other communities in Warri Kingdom.[3] [4]

Geography

Usele Community is located in Ode-Itsekiri ward of Warri South and under Warri Federal Constituency of the Nigerian Federal constituency. Usele Community is located close to other Itsekiri communities such as Inorin Community, Ajigba Community, Orugbo Community, Ugbodede Community and Ode-Itsekiri.

There are several families that make up Usele Community, and they include the Oneyor, Ogbobine, Afortan, etc. families.

Community Resources

At the inception of Usele Community, the community majored in trading palm oil, kernel and other related items.

Cultural Festival

Like other Itsekiri communities, Usele Community is known widely for its very elaborate culture.

  • Eguen dance: This is a special dance which the Usele people perform at very special Itsekiri events. Every indigene of the community can participate in the dance. There is a special dressing representing Prince Ugbona, the son of Prince Oritsemone and grandson to Olu Akengbuwa.[5]
  • Obiokpo Festival of Unity and Peace.
  • Ogienaga Festival. For over 40 years, this festival hadn't held. It was finally held in 2022.

Governance

Usele Community has a governance structure that mirrors most other Itsekiri communities. The Olu of Warri is the overall head of the communities. This is followed by a council of elders, a community trust and a youth body.
