VLONE is an American fashion and lifestyle brand founded by A$AP Bari in 2011.[1] VLONE has a vast catalog of collaborations with high-profile artists and brands including Juice Wrld, Pop Smoke, Off-White and Nike.[2][3][4][5] Each VLONE drop contains highly limited quantities of items available exclusively at pop-ups and online retail.[6]
The brand is known for its minimalist style, “V” logo and recurring phrases “Live VLONE Die VLONE” and “FRIENDS -.” Many of the core brand elements take inspiration from American thespian Orson Welles who once said, “We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone.”[7][8]
VLONE has a growing array of sub-brands that offer high-end products in a variety of ancillary industries. These include LIVE VLONE DIE VLONE for lifestyle and web3, VLONE CUTS for hair and cosmetics, and VLONE FARMS for cannabis.
History
The company was originally founded as “LIVE VLONE DIE VLONE” in 2011, however the name was shortened to VLONE shortly after.[9] In the early years of the brand, VLONE gained traction through guerilla marketing throughout New York City and co-signs from high-profile cultural figures including ASAP Rocky and other members of the ASAP Mob.[10] Virgil Abloh was a day one supporter and advisor to the brand and was also behind its first ever collaboration with Off-White.[11]
In 2014, ASAP Rocky was appointed as a brand ambassador of VLONE and hosted the Riot Rave in New York City where he handed out VLONE hoodies to a crowd of over 100 rioters.[12] The event is immortalized in the “RIOT RAVE” music video which begins with a disclaimer stating, “WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE IS A ASAP x VLONE ‘ART VIDEO’ THAT FEATURES REAL LIFE RIOTING THAT SPREAD ACROSS ALL FIVE BOROUGHS THROUGHOUT THE CITY. SHIT GOT REAL.”[13]
VLONE ascended to cultural prominence in 2016 through collaborations with notable brands including Nike and Off-White.[14][15] In the same year, VLONE hosted pop-ups in select cities, beginning with Paris, Los Angeles, Milan and Miami. Edison Chen was also brought on as a strategic advisor for VLONE in 2016.[16]
In 2017, VLONE collaborated with notable names including Tupac Shakur, and Mayweather Sports.[17][18] That same year, VLONE expanded its pop-ups to new locations including Tokyo, Beijing and London.
In 2018, VLONE launched collaborations with artists including ASAP Rocky, Playboi Carti and Chief Keef, along with brands like UNKNWN and Palm Angels.[19] That year, VLONE hosted pop-ups at key events including South by Southwest and Rolling Loud.[20]
Between 2019 and 2020, VLONE launched collaborations with world-renowned brands including Call of Duty and Interscope Records, along with a-list artists like The Weeknd and Pop Smoke.
Since 2021, VLONE has maintained a consistent output of collaborations with high profile figures including Dennis Rodman and Kodak Black.[21][22][23]
