Vano Teodor (Ukrainian: Ваньо Теодор; 1880 — 1959) was a Ukrainian Galician civil and political leader. An ambassador of the Galician Provincial Diet.
Biography[edit]
Vano Teodor was born in 1880 in the city of Busk (now Lviv region, Ukraine) in the family of a middle-class farmer.
He studied at Zolochiv gymnasium in Busk, at the faculty of Lviv University. Vano was Doctor of Laws in University of Vienna. Also he worked as a lawyer in Skole (1910-1913).
He founded the Ukrainian Unity Trade Union in Skole together with E. Petrushevych. Regional lawyer in Zolochev (1910–1914, 1918 - 1919, 1921). Chairman of the branch of the company "Farmer"
in Zolochev. An activist of the Ukrainian National Democratic Party (UNDP), Ambassador to the Galician Regional Sejm (1913–1914).[1]
During the First World War he was mobilized and served in the Czech Republic. Arrested and sentenced to death for political reasons. After the examination he was pardoned, demoted, demobilized.
During his active work in the Zolochiv region, the societies Sokil, Sich, Rodyna, and Besida were established; numerous branches of the Prosvita reading room and savings banks appeared in the villages, and in Zolochiv, the Ruska kasa; there were amateur amateur groups, choirs, and a cooperative movement.
Expelled from his native land, Theodore Vanyo died in poverty and persecution in the city of Zhovkva.[2]
