Vincent Reagan Lumala (born 20 June 1993) is a Ugandan inline skater, coach, and sports administrator. He is the founder and president of the Skating Club of Kampala, regarded as one of the first organized roller skating clubs in Uganda.[1]

Early life

Lumala was born and raised in Kampala, Uganda. He developed an interest in skating in 2011 or 2012 after seeing skaters move through the streets of the city.[1] With limited formal training opportunities, he learned informally through street skating groups, often practicing at night after school and work.[1]

Career

Skating

Lumala began skating competitively in the early 2010s, later joining Uganda’s National Roll Ball Team.[1] He represented Uganda in regional events such as the East Africa Roll Ball Championships in Rwanda and Kenya, and served as team captain during the 2021 Inline Speed Skating World Championships in Colombia.[1] He also competed in the 6th Roll Ball World Championship in 2023.[1]

Skating Club of Kampala

In 2016, Lumala founded the Skating Club of Kampala, which provides structured training and mentorship for Ugandan skaters.[1] The club has introduced skating to schools and community programs across Uganda, training both children and adults and organizing local competitions.[1]

Coaching

Lumala trained under the guidance of Asha Kirkby of Skate Fresh UK, obtaining coaching certification and becoming one of the first formally certified skating coaches in Uganda.[1] He has conducted coaching workshops and mentored new skaters and instructors, emphasizing youth development and accessibility in skating.[1]

Challenges and advocacy

Lumala has spoken about the challenges of developing skating in Uganda, including limited funding, lack of training infrastructure, and minimal government or institutional support.[1] He has self-funded much of the club’s activities, including transportation and equipment maintenance.[1]

Media coverage

Lumala’s life and work were profiled in a 2024 feature by *Kawowo Sports*.[1] A short documentary about his skating career and community work has also been published on [3](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixaxBGVpoJU) YouTube].[2]
