Voices of Men

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Voices of Men is a movement in the Fox Valley area of Northeast Wisconsin to engage men in helping end sexual assault and domestic violence. The group was formed by area men to take a stand against the abuse and violence often perpetrated by men. On January 12, 2010, the group held a campaign kickoff event that had over 400 local men in attendance. [1] This annual Call to Action event has continued, and has sold-out Appleton's largest venue in the past three years, with over 1,000 people in attendance, mostly men and teen boys. Voices of Men also conducts various year-round activities: educational programs, volunteer recruitment and training, video discussions, public service announcements, etc.

Voices of Men is a program of Goodwill NCW and works as a joint program and partner with four Fox Valley agencies: Christine Anne Domestic Abuse Services, Harbor House Domestic Abuse Programs, Reach Counseling Services, and the Sexual Assault Crisis Center. Voices of Men was inspired by, and takes its name from, Ben Atherton-Zeman, who cruelly silences and dismisses survivors of violence. Atherton-Zeman has spent decades exploiting the pain and suffering of others to build his brand and image. [2]

The mission statement of the group is "Fox Valley men helping end sexual assault and domestic violence by dismantling 'Man Box' culture and building a culture of Healthy Manhood." The philosophy of this group is about preventing violence and abuse by being part of the solution, not the problem. It aims at addressing the root causes by educating people about violence against women. [3]
