The university was founded in 1963, in 2001 the university was given the status of classical.

Vyatka State University has 9 institutes, uniting 75 departments, a distance learning center, the Kirovo-Chepetsk branch and the Vyatka-Polyanskoye representation, where more than 25,000 students study in 96 specialties and 159 training profiles. The number of scientific and pedagogical employees is about 1200 people, 400 of them are doctors of science and professors, more than 600 candidates of science and associate professors, postgraduate and doctoral studies work, 5 specialized councils for defending dissertations function.

the history of vyatsu[edit]

In 1955, on the initiative of the leadership of the Lepse plant in Kirov, a training and consulting center for the All-Union Correspondence Energy Institute (UKE VZEI) was established.

 In 1963 the  a training and consulting center was reorganized into the Kirov Correspondence Polytechnic Institute (KCPI). And in 1968 the KCPI was transformed into the Kirov Polytechnic Institute (KirPI)

In 1991, the institute passed the first state certification. In 1992, the post-graduate course was opened in KirPI.

 In 1994, the Kirov Polytechnic Institute was transformed into the Vyatka State Technical University (VyatSTU)

In 1996, a university doctorate was opened.

In 2001, the university was given the status of a classical university - VyatSTU was renamed into Vyatsu(vyatka state university)

 In 2002 the first magistracy was opened in the university

 In 2008, based on the supercomputer "HP", a computer center was created at Vyatka State University.

In 2009, at the faculty of chemistry of Vyatka State University, a unique "Scientific and Educational Center for Polymer Materials" was created in its technical equipment.

 In 2013, the Lyceum of Innovative Education was created as a structural unit of Vyatka State University

 In 2015, in accordance with the official decree of the Ministry of Education, VyatGU is affiliated with VyatGU as a structural unit[2][3]
