West Hampton are a fictional football team in the British comic Champ, which appeared in the We are United strip (1984-86), and other strips of D.C. Thomson. The name is a reference to London club West Ham United. The club's nickname is The Hampers. It was also simply called Hampton.
A club called Westhampton City featured in the Project 917 strip of the ROTR (17/08/85 to 16/08/86) starring Rob Smith.
History
West Hampton was located in London. They are one of the few British clubs to win European trophies by the mid 1980s, having lifted the Cup Winners Cup in 1963. They were described as East London giants. In 75/76 the team led by Colin ?, and Fangs Baker were league leaders.
In 84/85 they faced Riverton United in the Milk Cup. The manager was Lionel Johns, while the main man was centre forward Blaster Barnes.
