YN Murali (born 20 September 1958) is an Indian cinematographer who works mainly in the Indian film industry. Was earlier known as Murali Suresh when entered film industry as still photographer in 1981 and now popularly known as YN Murali. He has worked as Still Photographer in more than 90 films for learn about camera angles from multiple cinematographers and worked as cinematographer in over 43 films spanning across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi languages.

Worked with Directors in Tamil like K. Subash, Mani Ratnam, K.S.Ravikumar, R. V. Udayakumar, Rajiv Menon, S. P. Muthuraman , Pratap K. Pothen, Mohan (actor), Suresh (director), Manivannan, K. Rajeshwar, Major Sundararajan, Vasanth, Praveen Gandhi and worked with Directors in Hindi like Rajkumar Santoshi, S. Ramanathan (film director) and Keshu Ramsay.

Early life and family[edit]

YN Murali was born on 20 September 1958 in Madras, Egmore (now Chennai, Tamil Nadu). He was the fifth child in the family and has elder, younger brothers and sisters. YN Murali's aspiration towards films grew much during his childhood days. He was educated at the MCN High school, T.Nagar, Chennai. YN Murali is married and has two daughters.

As a student he was not interested in studies and only managed to pass the exams. After the drop out from high school he along with his friend K.Subash who was a Film Director and Screenwriter saw more than thousands of films from the year 1965.

Learned Taekwondo (2nd degree), Karate (1st degree), and Kalaripayattu martial from the year 1974-1981 and also Bharthanatiyam in (1976-1978) for using the skills in camera angles in the films as cinematographer. Got interested in Photography and Learned the technical Knowledge through hands-on experience while working in the film shootings sets of various films.

He is well versed in Optical work (1979-1981) and has done Editing work with Panjabi kesavan (krishnan panju), K. Narayanan, K.R.Ramalingam and K.Subash from 1982 - 1986 . Has done VFX (CGI) work with Pentamedia (Chennai), Visual Graphics Studio (Bangaluru) and Mediaman Studio (Chennai) 2000-2006.

He is running a film technology institute called YNM School of Cinema in Chennai and currently 25 hand picked pupils are learning.

Currently working as DOP in the Tamil film : "Kuthira Vandi" "குதிர வண்டி " produced by Mathan Pictures own by Mr. Ed. John Arockia Alexis, Chennai.
