Aluko & Oyebode is a full-service law firm headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria with other offices in Abuja and Port Harcourt. The firm is noted for its work in banking and finance,[3] capital market practice, energy and natural resources,[4][5][6] intellectual property, dispute resolution,[7] mergers and acquisitions, and tax law. The firm was named the law firm of the year at the 2019 edition of the ESQ Nigerian Legal Awards.[8][9]

  • 1993 — Aluko & Oyebode was founded by Gbenga Oyebode and Bankole Olumide Aluko, SAN[10]
  • 2002 — Bankole Olumide Aluko, one of the founding partners, dies.[11]

Notable case tried[edit]

Aluko & Oyebode represented the family of Deyda Hydara and Africa Regional Office of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ-Africa)[22] in an action against the Gambian government on its failure to investigate the murder of Deyda Hydara, a Gambian Journalist. In June 2014, the ECOWAS court found the Gambian government liable for failing to diligently investigate Deyda's murder.[23][24]

The Gambian government was also considered to be in violation of Article 66 of the Revised ECOWAS Treaty.[25]
