The American Revolutionary Party; abbreviated as the ARP is a far-left political party in the United States of America. The party describes itself as a left-unity party with a diverse range of leftists.[1] While the party is based in the United States, it has members from foreign nations as well.[2]

History[edit]

Formation of the Party[edit]

On September 6, 2019, the former Chairman of the American Revolutionary Party, Elai Devar, founded the American Revolutionary Party. By January of 2020, the party reportedly had over fifty active members.

February Reforms[edit]

After a failed merger with another political party, former Chairman Elai Devar resigned[3] and reforms were made within the party. The reforms included a change in leadership, a change in leadership structure, a change in the general party structure, and adopting a new constitution. A new leader was officially appointed on March 3, 2020.[3]

Ideology[edit]

The party's ideology is communism and left unity. The ARP seeks to unite all leftists to create an effective proletarian revolution. Since its founding, the American Revolutionary Party has also been anti-fascist; anti-capitalist, believing that capitalism will "destruct itself";[4] and anti-imperialist.[5] The ARP advocates for LGBTQ+ rights,[6] women's rights,[7] reforming the education system, putting an end to "imperialist wars,"[8] and protecting the environment.[9] They are skeptical of electoral politics[10] and believe that a two-party system within a liberal democracy is an "oppressive bureaucracy."[11]

Regarding economics, the ARP is against free market economy but hasn't explicitly stated their support for a Soviet-style planned economy.

The ARP is supportive of free healthcare, free education, legalization of same-sex marriage, adoption rights for same-sex couples, and taking aggressive action against climate change by implementing a Green New Deal.[1]

The ARP opposed the assassination of Iranian Major general Qasem Soleimani, saying that the "American airstrikes has done nothing but cause more unrest."[8]

The ARP supports the 2020 April Rent Strike and has demanded for the government to freeze rent due to the coronavirus pandemic.[12]

Current Activities[edit]

The ARP currently has chapters in four different states: Kentucky, Pennsylvania, New York, and Texas.[13][14][15][16] A chapter formerly operated in the Midwest.[17]

According to the April Agenda of the ARP, current goals of the ARP are increasing membership, creating an education program, distributing information regarding the party, and starting a meal supply campaign.[18]
