Ampaire Shakira
Ampaire Shakira (born 1991) is Ugandan Female chess player.[1] She has held the Fide title of Woman Candidate Master since 2018.
Background and education[edit]
Ampaire is born to Bagenyi Saidi and Kyomugisha Gloria Ruth. She attained a degree in law from Uganda Christian University(2010-2014), and also attained a postgraduate Diploma in Law from Law Development Center(2014-2015).
Career[edit]
She is a lawyer by profession.She started her career as a chess player at the age of 11, inspired by her mother Kyomugisha Gloria Ruth. She missed out on the first try to attain the Woman Candidate Master by ½ a point in the Zone 4.2 African Individual Chess Championships in Ethiopia but that did not weigh her down.[2][3][4] Ampaire emerged the unexpected winner in the women’s section of the Uganda Open Chess Championships with five points, beating pre-tournament favorites WFM Ivy Clare Amoko, WFM Goretti Angolikin and WFM Christine Namaganda to the gong.[5] She attained the Woman Candidate Master Title at the Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia in 2018 when she represented Uganda in the prestigious World Chess Olympiad.
