Archana Surana (born 21st September, 1971) is an Indian Fashion Entrepreneur and Educationist. She currently serves as the Director of ARCH Academy of Design which she founded..[1] in the year 2000.

Early life and education[edit]

Archana Surana was born in the traditional Kundalia family in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. Since childhood, Archana was bold, innovative and had a penchant for education. After completing her schooling from St. Thomas' School (New Delhi), Archana went on to pursue her Bachelor's Degree from Delhi University. Soon after, she pursued a two years’ diploma in Fashion Designing from the South Delhi Polytechnic College for Women and passed with a distinction. She also completed a professional course in Contour Fashion from De Montfort University in Leicester, United Kingdom. A proud alumni of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), she specialized in a course in fashion illustration from this prestigious institution.

Early Career[edit]

Archana started her career in the year 1994 and served as a faculty member for fashion design at the South Delhi Polytechnic College for Women, New Delhi. After getting married to advocate Rajiv Surana, Archana moved to Jaipur. In the year 1995, she joined as a faculty member for fashion design at the JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Jaipur Centre. From the year 1996 to 1999, She served as the director at Deepshikha college of Fashion technology in Jaipur.

Set up[edit]

With a vision to impart fashion education, Archana founded [2] the Arch Institute in a two room campus with an equipment donated by her friend. At this centre, she used to teach jewellery, fashion and interior designing. It has transformed into a strong community of 6,000 professionals, alumni, students and best-in-class teaching facilities across the state.

ARCH Role in Design Education under her Guidance[edit]

Archana founded the Arch College of Design and Business in the year 2000 with a vision to impart fashion education in the city and state in the best manner. Under her guidance, ARCH has made fashion education accessible to thousands of students from all across the country. She has played a pivotal role in the articulation and main streaming of Bachelor of Design Degree courses with the state University of Rajasthan. A widely traveled and noted speaker, she represents the institution in various International & National forums [3] [4]

ARCH Linkages[edit]

ARCH is affiliated to the University of Rajasthan for Bachelor of Design Degree (B.Des) and the Rajasthan ILD Skills University (RISU) for Bachelor and Master's in Vocational studies. ARCH in strategic partnership with Pearson, is accredited to deliver BTEC Level 5 HND qualifications in Art & Design. ARCH imparts specialized and industrially relevant education in the field of Interior, Product, Graphic, Fashion & Jewelry Design.

Incubation[edit]

Archana is credited with the setting up of Design Business Incubator – ‘HUBIn’ at the ARCH Campus to provide the necessary resources, services, coaching, mentoring & networking connections to develop business models based on design innovations and making them scalable through ‘start- up’ enterprises.

Recognition[edit]

She is distinguished as one of the first fashion educators and innovators of Rajasthan who laid the foundation of Fashion education in Rajasthan. She is also regarded as a woman icon who is known for her distinct working style, boldness and societal initiatives.

Women Mentors Forum[edit]

In the year 2015, Archana laid the foundation of Women Mentors Forum, Jaipur [4] & Udaipur [5] Chapter with a vision to mobilize passionate women from different walks of life and provide them a platform nurturing their dreams under the guidance of able mentors. The Women Mentors Forum (WMF) is a network of Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals who believe in inclusive growth.

Archana Surana is married to Rajeev Surana who is an advocate in Rajasthan High Court. They have two children, Manan and Tanmay Surana.

  • MEDITATION: She has taken three, 10 days courses of Vipassana, one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. She has also done a one seven days’ course in Satipaṭṭhāna meditation practice.
  • FASTING: A firm believer in terapanth religion, she has done full fasting (tapasaya) for four times for 15 days each, twice for 8 days and one for 10 days.
  • HEALING: Has done various courses in Pranic Healing
  • PLAY: GOLF
  • MOTIVATIONAL TALKS & WORKSHOPS: She has conducted workshops on professional practice, mentoring, entrepreneurship skills etc. at various government & private institutions
  • TRAVEL: Has traveled more than 15 countries
