BTCPK is a Pakistan[1] based cryptocurrency exchange. It was Pakistan's largest by volume in May 2016. Founded in June 2014 as BTCPK, it was Pakistan's first bitcoin and only crypto exchange later followed by urdubit and others. Most of its customers are thought to be from the domestic market.BTCPK launched its online exchange and website www.btcpk.net in 2016.[2]

History[edit]

Company CEO Suhail Tirmizi founded BTCPK in 2016 after investing his own money and attracting local investors and crypto enthusiasts in Pakistan, overseeing the company's rapid expansion and market share growth by the end of the year.As a Software and computer science graduate, he wanted to explore the decentralized future with other passionate crypto enthusiasts from around the world.

In November 2016, BTCPK moved its head offices to Islamabad and worked to expand its fraud protection policies, IT infrastructure and customer support teams. Trading limits and other SOPs were put in place to make the process of buying and selling crypto coins more inline with local KYC policies of State Bank of Pakistan.

On 06 April 2018, State Bank of Pakistan through its BPRD Circular No. 03 of 2018 prohibited the dealing in crypto currencies and tokens.[3]. This crypto ban put many small exchanges out of business while BTCPK announced that it was temporarily suspending its exchange services and acceptance of Pakistani PKR deposits.[4]

Currently, the trading on official website is still suspended and BTCPK shows prices for cryptocurrencies in Pakistan only for informative purpose. BTCPK also now hosts a thriving online digital market for its crypto users who are now joined by an ever increasing number of local online gamers and E-sports enthusiasts. Its digital market section is turing into one of the biggest Pakistani player-player trading platform for mobile games items and accounts.[5]
