BYDFi (formerly BitYard) is a cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2020 and registered in the Seychelles.[1] The platform operates a centralized exchange (CEX) alongside an on-chain trading engine called MoonX, and serves over one million registered users across more than 190 countries.[2][3] The exchange is known for allowing trading without mandatory KYC verification.[1] In 2025, BYDFi became the official cryptocurrency exchange partner of Newcastle United.[4]

History

Founding and BitYard era (2019–2022)

The company was established in late 2019 and launched its trading platform under the name BitYard in April 2020.[5] During the BitYard period, the platform positioned itself as a cryptocurrency derivatives exchange, using the slogan "Grow Your Future in the Yard."[6] The platform added spot trading, copy trading, and perpetual contracts with up to 200x leverage during its first two years of operation.[7]

Rebrand to BYDFi (2023)

In January 2023, BitYard rebranded to BYDFi, with the name standing for "BUIDL Your Dream Finance."[1][8] The rebranding coincided with the platform's listing on CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko.[1] The earliest Wayback Machine capture of the BYDFi domain dates to January 5, 2023.[9]

Expansion (2024–2026)

In October 2024, BYDFi began publishing Proof of Reserves reports, audited by blockchain security firm Hacken, showing reserve ratios exceeding 100% for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT.[7][10] In November 2024, the exchange joined South Korea's CODE VASP Alliance.[7]

In February 2025, BYDFi announced a partnership with hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger, launching a co-branded Ledger Nano X limited edition, of which 500 units were produced globally.[11]

In April 2025, BYDFi launched MoonX, an on-chain trading engine supporting the Solana, BNB Chain, and Base blockchains. The product debuted at Paris Blockchain Week and was described by Crypto Briefing as combining centralized exchange performance with decentralized trading access.[3][2] MoonX integrates Safeheron for key management using multi-party computation (MPC) and trusted execution environment (TEE) technology.[3]

In August 2025, BYDFi announced a Visa-branded virtual debit card to be made available in over 190 countries, with planned support for cryptocurrency top-ups and integration with Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal.[12]

In 2026, the platform expanded into traditional financial assets (TradFi), offering tokenized trading of US equities, forex, and commodities including gold, settled in USDT.[7]

Newcastle United partnership

On August 26, 2025, BYDFi signed a multi-year agreement with Newcastle United of the Premier League, becoming the club's official cryptocurrency exchange partner.[4][13][14] The deal was independently reported by The Block,[4] Decrypt,[15] and BeInCrypto,[16] among others. Protos included BYDFi in a broader analysis of cryptocurrency sponsorships across the Premier League.[17]

The partnership's branding was first activated on September 28, 2025, with the tagline "BUIDL YOUR DREAM FINANCE" displayed on LED pitchside boards during Newcastle United's home match against Arsenal at St James' Park.[15][16]
