Basin Bridge is a neighborhood in Chennai district, Tamil Nadu, India.[1] The Basin Bridge railway station here in this neighbourhood is a junction of railway lines that lead to the nearest Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M. G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station, an interstate railway terminal and also connect to other states of the Country.

Basin Bridge is located in Chennai at an elevation of 8 m above mean sea level and at the coordinates of 13°06'14.3"N 80°16'24.5"E of Earth. It is situated in ward 53 (old number 31) of Royapuram zone (number 5) of Greater Chennai Corporation.[2][3]

Basin Bridge neighborhood is bounded by Basin Bridge road, Chennai - Thiruttani - Renigunta Highway, Vijayaraghavalu road and railway tracks.

Road transport[edit]
This neighbourhood is well connected to all parts of Chennai and other districts of Tamil Nadu and other states by road transport, buses being operated by MTC (Metropolitan Transport Corporation), Chennai and SETC (State Express Transport Corporation).
Railway transport[edit]
It has a railway junction viz., Basin Bridge railway junction that connects several local and distant places of Chennai and other states. Express trains and suburban trains pass through this station. Perambur railway station, an intercity connected railway station, where most of the trains stop for a while for the passengers to entrain or detrain is situated at a distance of 3 km.

As per Census of India 2011, the total population of Basin Bridge was 32,152. Out of this, the male population contributed 16,030 whereas the female population was 16,122. The population of children below 6 years of age was 3,316 (males: 1,698 and females: 1,618).[4] Out of the total population, 16,598 (males: 8,130 and females: 8,468) were Scheduled Castes and 44 (males: 25 and females: 19) were Scheduled Tribes. Literates of Basin Bridge constitute 24,466 out of which males were 12,794 and females were 11,672.[5]

Stanley Medical College and Hospital run by the government is located just 1 km from here. Bharathi College for Women is situated at a distance of 1.5 km from here. At a distance of 2.5 km from here is located Dr. Ambedkar College of Arts.
Economical notability[edit]
This neighbourhood is famous for its trading activities of different kinds and varities of quality dried fishes. The Basin Bridge railway station serves so many parts of the district and other neighbouring districts and state by the floating population of vendors of different agricultural and food produces.
Political notability[edit]
Basin Bridge neighbourhood comes under Royapuram (state assembly constituency).[6] Whereas it is included in Chennai North (Lok Sabha constituency).[7]
