Kelambakkam is a rapidly growing suburban and residential locality to the south-east of Chennai metropolitan city. It is located along OMR road, and is just 5 km from Siruseri IT park and 12 km from Sholinganalur junction. It is an important junction after Sholinganalur which connects GST road (Vandalur) and ECR road (Kovalam).
It is a taluk of Thiruporur in Kanchipuram District.[1] It comes under the revenue division of Chengalpattu. The famous old mahabalipuram road passes through the town. It is a semi-urban area. The famous covelong beach is near Kelambakkam. Politically, the locality comes under the Thiruporur assembly constituency and Kanchipuram loksabha constituency. Its present MLA is M. Kothandapani.[2]

Transport
Kelambakkam is well connected to almost all important destinations in Chennai city like T.Nagar, CMBT, Broadway, Central Railway station, Tambaram through frequent MTC bus services. A new bus depot for Kelambakkam(Thaiyur) is under process for MTC bus shelter. Also, the Tamil Nadu government is constructing the biggest bus terminus (88 acres) near Vandalur which takes just 20 minutes to reach through Vandalur-Kelambakkam road. This bus terminus is twice the size of the CMBT bus terminus. Once constructed, it will be the largest bus terminus in Asia.
Metro Train project-phase 2 is under process which comes till Siruseri IT park.

- Wonderla Theme park - It is under construction in Thiruporur area and takes just 5 minutes from Kelambakkam.
