Benjamin Justin (BJ) "Ben" Schlappig is a [2] American blogger focusing on miles and points and credit cards. He is the founder and lead writer of the blog One Mile at a Time, affiliated with the BoardingArea consortium.[3] He became a full-time blogger while a college student at the University of Florida. Schlappig's blog includes reviews of luxury travel services and products, including credit cards, which generates revenue through the practice known as affiliate marketing.[4] [5]
He has also been the source of controversy for some of the practices by which he obtains free or miles-based travel, including being banned from flying United and banned from United MileagePlus in April 2011 for having "taken advantage of" its travel voucher system. [2][6].
Schlappig claims he has flown over four million miles and has made appearances in mainstream media as a travel expert. [7][8][9].
