Blackford are a fictional football team in the Bristish comic Champ, which appeared in the We are United strip (1984-1986) and in the Goals of Jimmy Grant in Victor. The club's nickname is The Clippers.
History
A Second Division, team Blackford Wanderers appeared in the Cup semi-final between the Darbury Rangers and Blackford Wanderers, captained by Nick Smith in 1959-60. It was in May 1960. The lineup: Bakeman; Wheeler, Black; Tomson, Ironmonger, Arnold Tabbs; Lane, Bunting, Vitabella (Brazilian), Nick Smith, Harris. Blackford Wanderers won the game and made it to the FA Cup final. Vitabella was described as the ‘World Centre-Forward Number One!
In 83/84 Blackford were in second division aiming at promotion again under manager Frank Lipfield. On 17 March they faced Riverton United, being unbeaten in last 7 games and 2nd on the table. Their star was flying left winger Arthur Nevin who was sporing a mustache.

Rivalries
A team called Blackford Wanderers was mentioned in early 1950s in Wizard, in the Limp Along Leslie story. It is possible that Wanderers were their crosstown rivals.[1] Another team called Blackford Rovers won the title at the end of 1998 in the FPSM (United Story).
