Brightwall Albion are a fictional football team in the British comic Champ, which appeared in the We are United strip (1984-1986). Albion were the first ever champions of the Football League in 1888, their only top flight title.
History
Brightwall Albion were founded in 1863, being the second oldest club in the Football League. The club was located on the South Coast of England. Original founding member of the Football League, Albion had an up and down history, spending most of their years in the lower divisions after the Second World War ended. Their last major trophy was the FA Cup in 1893.
In 1982/83 Albion won the Second Division and returned to the top flight. But in 1983/84 they had a titanic struggle to stay up, finishing 4th bottom, only after a 2-1 last season game victory against Leston Villa. It was a do or die match as they needed only 3 points to stay up and they made it. In 1984/85 the start was very slow with 8 points from 9 games, including a victory over Barton (4-1) in the very last game. Star of the team was black striker Melvin Bagafu who scored a hat-trick against Barton and was the club's record-signing. Manager was John Hullery in 1984/85.
