Spartax are a fictional Dutch football team in the British and Dutch comic universe. The team have appeared in the Rob van de Rovers in 1982 (Relegation, album 6 - Degradatie) and the We are United strip of Champ in 1984. The club’s name is a fusion referring to Sparta Rotterdam and Ajax.
History
In 1981-82 they faved Randstad Rovers in the league (1-1) in the Rob van de Rovers strip.[1]
In 82/83 Spartax qualified for Europe (probably UEFA Cup). However, like the other Dutch teams in Europe, they didn’t even reach a semifinal but were knocked out earlier in the 83/84 season. Spartax were an experienced team and between their players there were amassed 194 international caps, with sweeper Rudi Neeskens, the holder of a record 89 caps. In the summer of 1984, Spartax played in the ‘’Mini European Nations Cup’’ in France, a 6-team friendly international tournament.
