The CHAL Foundation (Chotanagpur Human Activity Life Foundation) is a non-governmental organization that works to improve living conditions for the poor in India. The organization’s vision is to provide sustainable services in healthcare, the environment, sanitation, computer education, women's rights, and literacy and skills development. The organization currently works in 293 villages in 8 districts of Jharkhand: Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Simdega, Gumla, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ramgarh and Jamshedpur. The secretary of the organization is Mr. Prakash Ranjan, and the head office is located in Ranchi.

History

CHAL Foundation was founded on 26 August 2006 with the aim of uplifting the social and economic life of the people of this hinterland called Jharkhand. The organization was founded on the birth anniversary of Mother Teresa, one of the pioneers in the field of services to mankind. Her works and life have been the inspiration for the society.

Event & Activities

  • Training on Small Scale Industries :- The organization provides a comprehensive training on small scale industries. It works as an intermediary between the governmental agencies and those aspiring to start businesses. Special emphasis is given on footwear, auto components, handicrafts, PCC ply making, and ancillary units for vehicle manufacturing.
  • Computer Literacy Program – The society runs Computer Education and Skill Development (CESD), a national Computer Literacy & Skill Development programme in various districts of Jharkhand.
  • Vocational Training Program – The society runs Institute for Professional Training (IPT), a national Vocational Training & Skill Development Programme in various districts of Jharkhand. In this program, girls and boys were trained for painting, sewing, embroidery, mobile repairing, beautician work, and mehndi application.
  • Village Cleaning Program – The society runs village cleaning programs with the help of self-help groups. Two separate groups were created to assess the village cleaning program. The first group acted as a suggestion committee and the second group acted as an execution committee. In addition to that, the society initiated a program on village cleaning with the help of the villagers. In this program, a team is formed in each village which is responsible to seek the voluntary services of youth in the pursuit of keeping the village clean and green. All the necessary materials for making the village clean and green are supplied by the society. The society proudly claims that it has yielded a positive result. Knowledge was shared about village cleaning, and participants learned about the steps to be taken to run water and sanitation programs, slum environmental sanitation initiatives, and school hygiene and health education programs. Special stress was given on garbage collection and destruction, for which a campaign was organized to spread the message among the people.
  • Women empowerment programme – The organization educates women about their lawful rights. The society organizes various camps, seminars and convocations for woman empowerment. Atrocities on women are a common issue, especially in India. Aiding various governmental schemes and programmes, the society takes a very active participation in conveying messages from governmental agencies to women regarding their empowerment.
  • Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC), Simdega – The Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC), a rural safe drinking water and sanitation programme, is being implemented in the villages of Jokbahar block, Simdega district, Jharkhand. The programme is supported by the District Water and Sanitation Mission, Simdega. Village Motivators, Panchayat Co-ordinators and Cluster Coordinators are appointed and trained for the campaign in the TSC programme. The organization has its own production unit for sanitary materials. The low-cost sanitary latrines being installed are of the UNICEF model. During the year, sanitary latrines were installed for both BPL (below Poverty Line) and APL (Above Poverty Line) families in the area.
  • Housekeeping Project – The society is involved in House Keeping services. It provides a foolproof programme for various institutions like schools, colleges, and working housekeeping projects in various offices, schools, colleges, Governmental and semi-governmental houses. Women from weaker societies are engaged in upkeep work. Thus the society generates employment in backward classes of the society.
  • Workshop & Seminars on Social Issues - The society organizes workshops & seminars on different social issues for the welfare of people.

Chotanagpur Human Activity Life (CHAL) foundation, an organization to advocate various social issues in rural areas, started a farmers club in Malmandu under NABARD.

“The organization should keep working for the welfare of rural and agriculture development,” said S.L.Das, NABARD officer. CHAL foundation secretary said that the organisation is dedicated to the overall development of farmers. “Our campaign includes making them familiar with the new technology and helping them in getting bank loans,” He added. Prabhat Ranjan Singh, Chinmoy Bhardwaj, Jyotish kumar mahto and others were present during the event.
