Danil Arkadievich Koretsky (born 4 August 1948[1]) is a Russian criminologist, writer, screenwriter, doctor of law, professor, honored lawyer of the Russian Federation, a retired police colonel [ru],[2] and an honorary officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

He has written 55 books with over 200 editions, with a total circulation of over 20 million copies. Some of his works have been translated into foreign languages and are known in many countries of the world. Three movies were shot based on his novels and scripts and three tv shows. He is also the author of 250 scientific papers, more than 400 judicial essays and articles in national and local newspapers and magazines. He has authored 12 proposals that have entered into laws and practice, including an alternative "Law on Weapons". He is a member of the Union of Russian Writers.

Biography

He was born on August 4, 1948 in Rostov-on-Don to a family of doctors - dentist Arkady Lvovich and cardiologist Yulia Georgievna Koretskikh. At his birth, his father wanted to give the boy the name Don, in honor of his brother, who died heroically in the Great Patriotic War. However, the Civil registration refused to register this name, referring to the fact that there is no such name in any lists. The fact that the father presented the documents of his deceased brother with the name Don did not change anything. So he was registered as Danil with one "and" in his name, contrary to the classic name Daniel. As a child, Koretsky dreamed of becoming a journalist and detective.[1]

In 1967 he graduated from the Rostov Radio Technical College.

In 1972 he graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Rostov University.

Service activities

After graduating from law school in 1972, Koretsky worked as an investigator in the prosecutor's office of the Kirovsky district of the city of Rostov-on-Don. In 1975 he was appointed senior research fellow the country's first department of criminological research of the Central North Caucasus laboratory of forensic examinations Ministry of Justice of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. [3] He worked there until 1980. From 1981 to 2011 he served in the Rostov faculty of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR, and later in the Rostov Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation (Department of Criminology and Penal Law). He was the first head of this department.[4] Since 2011 he has been a Professor of the Law Faculty of the Southern Federal University (Department of Criminal Law and Criminology).

At the very beginning of his career, he tried to write novels and novels on criminal topics. Despite the fact that Koretsky was an exemplary investigator, the leaders were wary of him because of his aristocratic habits, surname and literary experience.[5] He was not accepted into the party, which, however, did not slow down his career growth.

Creation

He is the author of over four hundred judicial essays and articles in central and local newspapers and magazinesnm, and took part in television programs: "Theme", "What? Where? When?", "National Interest", "Cultural Revolution", "The case is being heard", "To the barrier!", "All at once!", "Agency for Special Investigations", "Born in USSR".

The main direction in the work of Koretsky is criminal stories, partly based on real events and criminal cases. The main characters of Danil Arkadievich's works often have their own real prototypes. For example, from the veteran of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Nikolai Ivanovich Bychkov, who still worked in the NKVD, under Lavrentiy Beria and went to the German rear as part of a sabotage group, the character of the veteran operative Ignat Filippovich Sizov "The Old Man" has been "written off". The prototype of Philip Korenev (Fox), the hero of the novels of the Antikiller series, was the inspector of the criminal investigation department Anatoly Rublev, who had the nickname Fox. Many real episodes of his life, which were included in the novels, are sometimes perceived as inventions of the author. Unfortunately, Rublev died early from a heart attack. Another acquaintance of Koretsky was in command of the capture group, fought in Chechnya, and, moreover, composed songs. He was the prototype of the commanders of special forces in the novels of Danil Arkadyevich.

Often in his plots (cycles "Rock and Roll Under the Kremlin", "Signs of the Wolf" and "Pawn in the Big Game", separate works "Atomic Train", "Save the Embassy" and others) elements of mysticism and fantasy are intertwined by the author, based on the plots of Russian urban legends (mutant rats in the Moscow metro, Metro-2 and the like) and uncharacteristic for the general plot orientation of the books. Also, several books by Koretsky touch upon the themes of diggerism and the search for the Lost Library of Ivan the Terrible.

Scientific activity

He is the author of 250 scientific papers, one of the developers of the published bill "On the legal regime of weapons", in legal science develops the direction of "criminal armalogy": teachings on the legal regime of weapons, studies the problems of preventing armed, domestic and various types of modern crime.[6] Thirty-five candidate dissertations were defended under his scientific supervision. Twelve proposals made by him in scientific publications for improving legislation, subsequently found reflection in the laws "On weapons", the Criminal Code of Russia and other regulations. His scientific and practical manuals on the problems of the combat use of weapons were used in training employees of internal affairs bodies and special (government) communications.[7]
